TUCSON, Ariz. - Tucson Botanical Gardens had high hopes it could expand into a former Fry's store at Grant and Alvernon---right next to the current gardens.
KGUN9 was first to bring you that story.
Fry's wasn't willing to donate the land.. but it did let the Botanical Gardens bid to buy the property.
We learned late Thursday the bid from the Gardens fell short.
Fry's is selling to a different bidder which it's not identifying just yet.
Naturally, Botanical Gardens director Michelle Conklin is disappointed.
"We're grateful for some of the things that happened through this process. We've gained new friends. There was an outpour of community support that we would have never imagined."
Frys did give the gardens sort of a consolation prize---a fifty thousand dollar grant.
