Border Patrol officers seize $1.7M in drugs

NOGALES, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Border Patrol officers arrested seven people for separate attempts to smuggle  1,936 pounds of marijuana, heroin and methamphetamine through the Port of Nogales this week, according to U.S. Border Patrol.

Officers referred a 28-year-old woman for further inspection which led them to 22.5 pounds of meth within her cars rocker panels.

In another incident, officers referred a 30-year-old man from Nogales for further inspection of the tractor he was driving. A narcotics-detection dog alerted officers of drugs co-mingled within a shipment of cucumbers. Officers found more than 200 bundles of marijuana.

Later, a narcotics-detection dog led officers to 103 pounds of marijuana hidden in a couples car.

Officers also referred a 29-year-old Rio Rico woman for additional inspection of her car. They found 37 pounds of meth hidden in the back doors.

A short time later, a 31-year-old woman from Phoenix was found carrying more than 44 pounds of heroin.
