A woman has been arrested, accused of hitting and running over her boyfriend with her car in Tempe.

Tempe police report that on April 21 they responded to Hardy and University drives for a car-pedestrian crash. Two witnesses allegedly told police that they saw a woman drive up on the sidewalk and run over a man.

The victim was taken to a hospital, "with visible injury to the right side of his body from his face to his legs."

The victim would later tell investigators that he and his girlfriend, 40-year-old Vanessa Bernice Santillan, got in an argument when he got out of the vehicle and walked away.

When she honked her horn at him, he made an obscene gesture toward her, according to police. Santillan then reportedly drove up onto the sidewalk and struck the man with her vehicle.

Santillan would later tell police that she didn't stop because she didn't realize it was "that bad."

She turned herself in to police three days later.

Santillan has been charged with aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
