A Pima County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed an assailant in the area of Floyd Street and Leonard Avenue on the westside Tuesday night.
According to Sheriff Chris Nanos, this began around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday for a call about a someone taking pictures of children in his car.
Deputies were able to locate the vehicle from a description and tried to pull him over. The suspect did not pull over immediately but drove a few blocks at a slow speed and pulled into a residential drive way.
Both the deputy -- Koby Knodle -- and the assailant 24-year-old Marcos Antonio Gastelum, got out of their cars and the suspect assaulted the deputy.
The deputy was knocked to the ground where he fired one round at the suspect.
Both were transported to the hospital.
Knodle suffered head trauma and Gastelum died of gunshot wounds. Deputies are unsure if the driveway was Gastelum's home.
