TUCSON, Ariz. — During the month of September, over 8,000 Subway® restaurants, including more than 70 in the Tucson-area, joined together to feed their local neighbors in need by helping to provide 4.8 million meals to their local area food banks, including 50,000 meals in the Tucson-area. Over 90 local food banks in the Feeding America® network across 28 states will benefit from this campaign.

This effort was held in September, which Feeding America® has designated Hunger Action Month to mobilize communities to fight hunger in America. The 2019 Feed the Need campaign is one of many actions taken by Subway and the thousands of local Franchise Owners to fight hunger and food insecurity around the world.

“In Southern Arizona, nearly 20% of the population is living below the poverty rate and needs our help. This program was meant to both raise 50,000 meals to them as well as shine a light on how anyone can pitch in and help in this community,” says Richard V. Schibler, a southern Arizona Subway franchisee, adding that Subway Restaurants of Arizona’s nonprofit arm – Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona – is similarly active in the region, donating more than $40,000 to nonprofits that help give at-rick children access to sports and wellness programs across Pima and Cochise Counties in recent years.
