Phoenix police officers were involved in a shooting early Monday morning.
Police were originally called to the area of Interstate 17 and Indian School Road around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of an armed man who was in the road and jumping at cars while they were passing by. Officers received reports that the man may also have been aiming a gun at cars.
Responding officers reportedly attempted to get the man to drop his weapon, and at some point the man pointed the gun at officers, prompting them to fire at him. Police say the man continued to ignore officers' commands and despite less-lethal actions, he continued to aim at officers, prompting them to shoot at him again.
No officers were hurt, but police say the suspect, identified as an adult man, suffered critical injuries.
