Professional hockey is coming back to Tucson.
The Arizona Coyotes purchased the Springfield (Mass.) Falcons American Hockey League franchise Tuesday, announcing plans to move the franchise to Tucson.
The minor league team will play at the Tucson Convention Center next season, pending approval of the city.
Tucson has not had a professional hockey team since the Tucson Gila Monsters shuttered in 1999. Tucson hasn't had a permanent pro sports franchise since the Tucson Padres baseball team left the city in 2013.
