There are nearly 17 million cancer survivors in the U.S. today, and that number is expected to increase to 26 million by 2040.[i] Despite this time of rapid progress in cancer treatment, new research from the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) has revealed that few cancer survivors feel very prepared for life after treatment.[ii]

That’s why a series called Survivorship Today: What It’s Like to Live with Cancer was created to help people understand the realities that cancer survivors face each day. It does so by telling the inspiring stories of people from across the country living with the disease and calling attention to urgent issues, like mental health and availability of care. A new episode of the series narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown (“This is Us”, “Black Panther”) will be released in early December.

One of the survivors featured in the series is Justin Birckbichler. He was just 25 years old when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016. Although Justin completed treatment more than two years ago, the disease continues to affect him every day.
