Pima Animal Care Center will be cutting adoption prices to help people find their new best friend. On Aug. 17, all pets that are at least four months old will have waived adoption fees in honor of PACC’s participation in the nationwide “Clear the Shelters” campaign. A standard $20 licensing fee will apply to adult dogs.

“The summer months make up the busiest time at our shelter,” says Kristen Hassen-Auerbach, Director of Animal Services. “Last year, we hit our highest number of pets in August, and it stayed pretty high until October. If you adopt a pet during this time, you are truly helping the shelter save lives!”

To help find homes for these dogs and cats, PACC is partnering with Telemundo, which will air a special day-long program on Aug. 17 to highlight the importance of pet adoption and the capacity issues animal shelters face, particularly during the summer months when cats and dogs are having litters. This will air on KHRR-TV Channel 40 Tucson.

The campaign is spearheaded by the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations Division of NBCUniversal. Last year, people adopted 103,037 pets during the “Clear the Shelters” campaign. Since this effort began in 2015, more than 256,000 pets have found homes.

PACC is planning several events for the “Clear the Shelters” day including a canine fashion show, giveaways, food trucks, and demonstrations from Friends of PACC’s Transforming our PACC (TOP) Dogs project, a group that provides training and enrichment for PACC dogs with behavioral needs.

You can see PACC Pets online or you can visit them at the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road. Adopted pets will come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and with one free vet visit. PACC is open Monday through Friday, noon-7 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends.
