UA Football holds first practice of fall camp

Just as Rich Rodriguez stated during the off season, quarterbacks Anu Solomon and Brandon Dawkins split first-team reps in the first practice of fall camp at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium on Thursday night.

"I don't know if this is a big revelation to our guys that we make guys compete for starting jobs.  I mean, I've never believed in giving a guy a position.  I think Anu knows he's good enough to win with but he needs to play better and more than anything, stay healthy,"  Rodriguez said after practice.

Solomon seems to be reacting to his newly-opened position well.

"Every year, the job is always open and I like it that way.  Every year, nothing is solidified unless you're big-time," the junior quarterback said post-practice.

Solomon has started 25 games as a Wildcat, but has faced multiple injuries that kept him on the sideline.

With Solomon out, in came Brandon Dawkins.

"I'm coming out here to compete.  I don't care if it's Michael Jordan or Michael Vick, I'm still going to come out here and compete no matter who it is," the sophomore said.
