TUCSON, Arizona — While election day may not be a national holiday, Arizona Football is doing its part to turn out the vote by giving its student-athletes the day off from football to cast their ballots.

"In the grand scheme of things, we’re playing football," said head coach Kevin Sumlin. "It’s a big deal, but guess what, if you want certain things to happen in this country, then you need to vote."

Several of the players, such as quarterback Grant Gunnell, are from out of state. Gunnell mailed in his vote to his home state of Texas.

"That's great that they are giving us that time to exercise our right," said Gunnell. "I've already voted, so tomorrow I'll probably be watching film and studying defense."

Arizona opens its season Saturday at Utah.
