Wildcat baseball hits home run with Major Lague parody

Before the Wildcats called Hi Corbett Field home, it was a popular club that put the Tucson stadium on the map.  Once the spring training home for the Cleveland Indians, Hi Corbett Field also made a cameo in the baseball movie, Major League.

Thanks to the creative talents of infielder Sawyer Gieseke, the Wildcats kicked off their season with a near replica of the 1989 classic's famous spring training arrival scene.

“They've all seen the movie, they love the movie, it was filmed on this field,” says head coach Jay Johnson.

Naturally, Johnson showcased his acting chops as gruff manager, Lou Brown.

Johnson, who said his voice was hoarse the day of filming, said it worked out perfectly.

“And there will be no more imitations for the rest of the season,” says Johnson jokingly.

“It didn't really cross my mind when I watched it in the past, that this was actually the field that they did it on, says junior catcher Ryan Haug.  “ But after watching that, and going back through it, it's sweet.”

With the video going viral, Johnson says it's something he thinks the fans enjoyed.

“Apparently it's caught more attention than I think anybody anticipated.  And in a good way. So it was positive.”
