TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Sugar Skulls (3-1) have their placekicker to thank for one of the more unusual touchdowns scored this season.
On Sunday against the San Diego Strike Force, Diego Marquez ran in a botched field goal try.
He admitted to KGUN 9 that it was actually a fake field goal that went awry.
"I wasn't even the one who was supposed to be taking the snap," said Marquez. "It was supposed to go to the holder and he was supposed to run the outside route."
Marquez described the mad touchdown dash.
"I instantly snapped to when I was at Miami, we did all the drills. Kept the ball high and tight and hoped everyone blocked. Probably one of the greatest feelings. My first time scoring."
Marquez is the Indoor Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week.
He and the Sugar Skulls travel to to Nebraska to face the Danger Saturday night.
