FC Tucson women are set to play their home opener this Friday night against the San Diego Sea Lions.

Among the players on this year's roster for head coach Amy Garelick is former Catalina High School record breaking goal scorer Madison Irwin. She returns to her hometown after finishing up her collegiate career at the University of New Mexico.

"I've been telling everyone about the home game on Friday, so it's nice to play in front of my family and friends again," said Irwin. "They're really excited about it."

One of the University of Arizona players on this year's roster is Hannah Wong, a native of New Zealand. "So, I took a little time off and started to miss it," said Wong. "I've had some time, and I'd ready to give a it a go. I'm excited to be playing again."

FC Tucson competes in the Women's Premier Development League. Some players commute from out of town, often showing up for the first time before games.

"For games, there will be a new girl in the locker room, and we're like hey, but soccer is soccer," said Irwin. "We always figure it out."
