Today, the University of Arizona introduced its new Vice President of Athletics, replacing Greg Byrne who departed for Alabama.

Heeke comes to Tucson after having spent the last 11 years as Athletic Director at Central Michigan University, and the 18 years prior to that in the University of Oregon Athletic Department.  In his press conference, Heeke stressed the importance of his family and doing things the right way.

He also emphasized the value of a culture of compliancy.

Heeke hopes connecting with the Tucson community will encourage community engagement and cultivate meaningful relationships.  He also stressed the importance of making academics just as important as the athletics.

Some of Heeke's achievements include coordinating a $22 million private campaign for renovations for a new basketball arena and fitness center, a $6 million project overseeing the planning and design for a new lacrosse and soccer stadium and a $10 million project for renovations for other facilities including baseball, gymnastics, and softball.

Heeke and his wife, Liz, are thrilled to be returning to the west coast.  He has three kids, two of which are currently students at CMU.
