Despite winning 11 of its final 16 games, University of Arizona baseball will not be participating in the NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats were listed atop the 'first four out' at the end of the televised selection show.

"I walked up to the screen where it showed we were the 'first four out,'" said head coach Jay Johnson. "It will be on my screen saver of my computer every day. It doesn't matter if we win a national championship. That will be on my screen saver for the rest of my career as a coach. We know it. It wasn't like a surprise."

"We're kind of bummed out," said first baseman Alfonso Rivas. "The play reflects the position we put ourselves in."

"I'm disappointed," said catcher Cesar Salazar. "I feel like I could have done a better job to put us in a better position."

The Wildcats finished with a record of 34-22, losing 13 games by one run.
