Game week begins for Arizona Football

Posted

It is officially game week for the Arizona football program.

Rich Rodriguez spoke in a weekly press conference on Monday afternoon at the Lowell Stevens football facility.

With only five days remaining before the season opener, no starting quarterback has been named.

"Anu is a starter... Brandon Dawkins is a starter... now only one can take the snap going out and stay tuned for Saturday night to find out who that is. But right now we haven't even talked about it as a staff. I wouldn't hesitate to play both of them. Both of them probably will play," Rodriguez says.

Trey Griffey also says of Solomon, "he's becoming the quarterback that Coach Rodriguez wants him to be... Always on the receivers about routes, we're talking to him every day, always wants to watch film, watch other teams."

While a question remains at the quarterback position, Rodriguez did reveal that Josh Pollack will likely start as a kicker and punter.

"Josh pollack has kicked better under the lights of a stadium than on the practice field, so maybe he's a stadium guy. I haven't asked him how he's going to kick in Phoenix stadium there," Rodriguez adds.

The biggest question lies in how Arizona's defense will fair against BYU, and beyond.  Marcel Yates, who will coach from the coaching booth this year, will make his game debut as Arizona's defensive coordinator.

Senior defensive lineman Sani Fuimaono is well aware of the criticism and double facing this defense.

"We don't really care what people think about us, I know people think we're small. Hey, we are. But we know what we're capable of and what we bring to the table. I think we're going to surprise a lot of people this year."

Kick-off between Arizona and BYU is at 7:30 pm on Saturday night at University of Phoenix Stadium.  The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
