TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Pusch Ridge Christian Lions won their first state championship in school history on Saturday night with a 14-7 victory of Northwest Christian.

The Lions trailed 7-0 at halftime but quickly turned it around with a Cody Cropp to Ben Walker touchdown.

The Lions recovered a crucial fumble with 1:33 left in the game and ended up winning the game with a Tamaret Mcleod touchdown.

The Joy Christian Eagles beat Benson 27 to 7 in the Division V State Championship game Saturday afternoon at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale.

Both teams entered the title game undefeated, but Joy Christian's high powered offense led by senior quarterback Matt Mitchell was the difference.

The Bobcats had four costly turnovers, 3 of which were inside the Joy Christian 35 yard line.

"It's sad, we didn't get what we wanted but I got to hand it to Joy Christian.  They're a phenomenal team," Benson senior quarterback Nick Hernandez says.

"You don't expect to lose, you aren't ever prepped to lose but Joy Christian is a good program. Coach Cole does a great job with them. I'm proud of our kids. They came out and battled.  That's all I can ask of them," Bobcats head coach Chris Determan adds.
