Arizona is the No. 6 seed in the South

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) Arizona Basketball is a number six seed in the South Region, and will play the winner of Vanderbilt and Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Wildcats are coming off a 95-89 overtime loss to Oregon in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament . Arizona will enter the NCAA Tournament with a 25-8 record. The Wildcats have been inconsistent in games, often playing just one strong half of basketball.

The Ducks are the top seed in the West Region. Kansas, North Carolina, and Virginia are the other top seeds.

A record Pac-12 teams teams are in the tournament, including Oregon State, and USC, which is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years.

Arizona lost to Wisconsin in each of the past two seasons in the Elite 8. The Wildcats last trip to the Final 4 was in 2001.
