Arizona Baseball has won its NCAA Tournament opener with a 7-3 victory on Friday night over Sam Houston State in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Senior Nathan Bannister pitched seven innings without allowing a run. The Wildcats got back to back fourth inning home runs from Ryan Aguilar and J.J. Matijevic.
The win was Arizona's 7th in a row. The Wildcats will next face the winner of Princeton and Louisiana-Lafayette, which is hosting the regional. It is a double elimination format with the winner advancing to the Super Regional, which is known as baseball's sweet sixteen.
It's the Wildcats first trip to the NCAA Tournament since winning the College World Series in 2012.
