Young girl bitten by coyote at Scottsdale park taken to the hospital

The Arizona Game and Fish Department says a young girl was bitten by a coyote at a park in Scottsdale Tuesday.

The five-year-old girl was taken to the hospital and had to get rabies shots but is expected to be ok.

The incident happened at the Thompson Peak Park near Hayden Road and Thompson Peak Parkway.

Arizona Game and Fish says people had known the coyote was in the park, and that several people were feeding it before the girl was bitten. The girl reportedly had sat down on a slide with a granola bar, while the coyote underneath.

Game and Fish says they've been searching the area for the coyote but it has not been located.

They say this is a strong reminder for the public to please not feed wildlife in the area, for the safety of everyone involved.
