PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say officers fatally shot a man after he fired on an officer, who narrowly escaped serious injury thanks to his portable radio.
The Monday night shooting occurred during a struggle with 28-year-old Xavier Jaime Rovie, who had been bicycling downtown when two officers tried to stop him for traffic violations.
A police spokeswoman says the suspect fired a handgun.
A bullet struck an officer's radio, which was positioned in front of his vest.
The officers returned fire, killing Rovie.
The officer who was shot at was treated and released from a hospital for minor injuries.
