PHOENIX (AP) - Police in Phoenix say a pedestrian has been fatally struck by a car while jaywalking.

They say 75-year-old Robert Joey was hit about 1:15 a.m. Sunday and was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk.

Joey was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Joey was reported missing before the incident occurred.

He was last seen walking away from the Christown Mall, located about 8 miles south of the fatal crash site.

Police say the 26-year-old driver remained at the scene and impairment or speed don't appear to be a factor.

The driver told police he saw the man in the roadway, but was unable to stop in time or avoid the collision.
