PAYSON, AZ — Gila County Sheriff's Office and aviation officials are investigating a plane crash in Arizona on Monday evening.

Officials were first called to the area around 6 p.m. for reports of a possible downed aircraft in the Mazatzal Wilderness area west of Payson.

Sheriff's officials say two people were on board: 75-year-old Brad Lawrence and 19-year-old Carter Buckner.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are aware of the incident and are responding to the scene to investigate.

Officials say Pinal County and Maricopa County officials are assisting with the investigation and helping deputies get to the site, which is in remote and rugged terrain.
