PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say a detention officer is hospitalized in critical condition after being attacked by a jail inmate.
They say the officer sustained life-threatening injuries in Tuesday morning's incident at the Lower Buckeye Jail.
The names of the detention officer and the inmate weren't released.
Sheriff's officials say that due to the complexities of the investigation and out of respect to family members, they will be restricting the release of any additional details about the jail attack.
