PHOENIX (AP) — A landscaper once charged in freeway shootings in metro Phoenix during 2015 has alleged in his false-arrest lawsuit that there's a high likelihood a car belonging to a man later charged in nine killings was near two of the interstate shootings.
Leslie Merritt Jr.'s attorney said license plate readers picked up a plate matching six of the seven characters from killings suspect Aaron Juan Saucedo's BMW near two of the freeway shootings.
Lawyers for Arizona's Department of Public Safety have asked a judge to bar claims about Saucedo at Merritt's March 30 civil trial.
Messages seeking comment from Saucedo attorney Thomas Glow were not immediately returned.
