A 17-year-old girl may face endangerment charges for leaving two children in a parked car in triple-digit heat.

Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis said officers responded to the area of 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday after receiving reports of two kids left unattended in a vehicle.

The car was not left running, and the windows were only slightly down, according to Lewis. Officers contacted the children, who did not appear to be injured.

Lewis said a 17-year-old girl was located nearby with two other children. She reportedly had "gone on a Starbucks run" and left two of the kids behind in the car.

According to Lewis, officers found drugs in the vehicle and the teen was detained. Endangerment charges will likely be recommended, he said.

All of the children involved are safe and with family.
