Phoenix Police officials say one of two children taken to the hospital this morning after a crash involving a dump truck has since died.

Police say an SUV and dump truck reportedly collided shortly after 7 a.m. Monday near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road.

A woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while a 7-year-old and 9-year-old were said to be extremely critical.

The 9-year-old was pronounced deceased once she arrived to the hospital, police say.

Phoenix Sergeant Vince Lewis said both the 7-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Sgt. Lewis said the 7-year-old is still in critical condition at the hospital as of Monday afternoon.

Phoenix police said 51st Avenue is closed at Broadway Road.

The driver of the dump truck stayed on the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
