A Tempe man was arrested this week after using an electronic tracking device to stalk his ex-girlfriend.

The woman told police that after being harassed by 27-year-old Joseph Maki, she was granted an order of protection against him. However, she continued to see Maki show up at locations she was at, even when she told no one where she was.

A friend helped her search the undercarriage of her car and they found an electronic tracking device which they immediately turned over to police.

Police say they went to a parking lot outside Christie's Cabaret, near Priest Drive and Baseline Road, where they activated the device. Maki was reportedly seen by police, driving by the establishment. They followed and arrested him a few miles away.

Police say they found a second tracking device in his car.

According to court paperwork, Maki is employed by Blasian Executive Security Transportation and occasionally carries a firearm while on the job.

We called a spokesperson of his employer who explained that they perform "full spectrum" background checks before hiring people.

We also went to Maki's Tempe apartment but no one answered the door.

Maki is currently awaiting trial in California for stalking a different woman.
