PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Detectives say one of the two former Temple University police officers charged in the slaying of a woman in Philadelphia was the victim's boyfriend.

Police Capt. James Clark said Monday 47-year-old Aaron Wright was extremely controlling and became upset Friday with his girlfriend, 24-year-old Joyce Quaweay.

Clark says Wright and 41-year-old Marquis Robinson handcuffed her to a bench, where Wright beat her with a baton. Police say the abuse was witnessed by four children.

Wright is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and related offenses. Robinson faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated assault and related offenses.

Temple says Wright resigned in 2012. The university says Robinson was on officer until Sunday, when he was fired because of the charges.

Court records didn't list attorneys for the men.
