A Swedish soccer player was sent off during a match after letting loose a fart in front of the referee.

Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, a member of the Järna SK’s reserve team, was shown a red card for “deliberate provocation” and “unsportsmanlike behavior” after flatulating during the game.

Ljungkvist, who claims he was suffering from a stomachache at the time, was forced to leave the game after receiving the red card.

“I asked the referee, ‘What, am I not allowed to break wind a little?’ ‘No,’ he replied … I don’t get it but maybe he thought I farted in my hand and threw the fart at him. But I did not,” he said, according to The Gaurdian.

The referee claims that the fart was directed towards him.

“I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a yellow card,” said Dany Kako.

According to Screamer, Kako wasn’t the only person on the field who smelt — but did not “dealt” — it.

“I was standing a good distance away but I heard the fart loud and clear. It’s the strangest thing I’ve seen on a pitch, and I’ve been playing football since I was eight years old,” said Kristoffer Linde of the opposing team, Pershagen SK.

No matter how inappropriate Kako thought the fart was, he says it isn’t the grossest thing he’s seen on the soccer field.

“Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too,” he said.
