One police officer was killed and six other members of law enforcement were wounded by a gunman on Wednesday as officers in Florence, South Carolina after deputies attempted to serve a search warrant at a residence.

The suspect shot four deputies from the Florence County Sheriff's Office.

When officers from the nearby City of Florence Police Department arrived to assist the wounded deputies, the gunman opened fire again, killing Terrence Carraway, a 30-year member of the Florence Police Department, and Two other officers from Florence Police.

Florence County Sheriff Kenny Boone said that the suspect barricaded himself for two hours, with children inside his residence. Shortly before 6 p.m., he surrendered to police. The identity of the suspect has not been released.

"These officers went there unknowing the firepower this suspect had. ... They thought it was a random search warrant," Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said.

At 6 p.m., the Florence County Emergency Management said, "The active shooting situation is over and the suspect is in custody. We are asking everyone to stay away from Vintage Place as there is still an active crime investigation in progress."

Earlier in the evening, the Florence County Emergency Management said, "There is an active shooter incident in progress at this time. We are advising everyone to stay away from this area. We have Sheriff Officers along with City PD and other first responders handling this situation."
