In a strange twist of fate, former Subway spokesman and convicted sex offender Jared Fogle has taken a new job in prison — serving sandwiches on the cafeteria line.

TMZ reported that Fogle landed the job at the Federal Englewood Correctional Facility, and that the joke was not lost on the prison guards. According to TMZ sources, “prison officials were privately giggling over the irony.”

Fogle hasn’t had the easiest time since he was sentenced to 15 years in prison in November. He was reportedly jumped in the rec yard of the prison in January, suffering a bloody nose and other injuries to his face and neck.

Fogle served as a spokesman for Subway for 15 years after he claimed Subway sandwiches helped him lose weight. He plead guilty to charges of child pornogrpahy, and crossing state lines to pay for sex with minors last year.

Earlier this month, TMZ reported that Fogle has gained 30 pounds since entering prison. Fogle’s attorney denied the claims.
