Publix recalling chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream

Publix is recalling half gallon containers of store-brand ice cream due to a possible Listeria contamination, the FDA reports.

Aspen HIlls, Publix’s ice cream supplier, notified the grocery chain that Publix-brand Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream that some of the product could contain Listeria monocytogenes — a bacteria that can cause sometimes fatal infections in young children or elderly people.

Listeria can cause fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. There have been no reported cases of illness.

The affected product was sold at Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina. The half gallon packages will have a UPC of 000-41415-03843 with a sell by date of May 27, 2017.

Publix customers who purchased the affected ice cream can return the product to stores for a full refund. Customers can also contact the company at 1-800-242-1227 or through their website.
