During a FEMA press briefing held in the Oval Office Tuesday afternoon, President Trump called his administration's response to Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico an "unsung success."

"I think Puerto Rico was incredibly successful. I actually think it was one of the best jobs that's ever been done," he told pool reporters.

Last month, Puerto Rico upped the official death toll from the hurricane from 64 to 2,975, according to CNN. The New York Times estimates that more than 1,000 people occurred after the storm left.

Much of the island was without power for months following the deadly storm.

Full power was restored to Puerto Rico for the first time since the storm last month — 11 months after Maria made landfall.
