Newly released surveillance video shows the moment gunfire erupted in the Historic Oregon District in Dayton, Ohio, around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Connor Betts, identified by police as the 24-year-old gunman, killed nine people Sunday, including his sister Megan Betts. The shooting also injured 27 others.

Betts began shooting as he made his way toward a bar called Ned Peppers, Dayton Police said.

The surveillance video released Sunday shows people in the Historic Oregon District falling to the ground and taking cover.

The shooter was armed with a .223-caliber high-capacity rifle with 100-round drum magazines, and wearing a mask, bulletproof vest and hearing protection, police said. He was shot and killed by police within 30 seconds of opening fire.

"The officers immediately advanced toward the gunfire and within approximately 20 seconds, they engaged the suspect, who was actively firing and attempting to enter a crowded liquor establishment," Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said.

The shooting in Dayton happened about 13 hours after the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas.

The surveillance video can be viewed below. Due to the graphic nature of the content, some may find the video disturbing.
