The New York Daily News and the Donald Trump campaign have not seen eye-to-eye.

While prominent national media fixtures such as the Washington Post and the New York Times have published editorials slamming Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, the Daily News has issued several front-page pokes at Trump.

The latest came Wednesday with the Daily News calling for the Republican Party and vice presidential nominee Mike Pence to "abandon Trump for toying with political bloodshed" after Trump's controversial Second Amendment comments at a Tuesday press conference.

During his speech, Trump warned people about what would happen if Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton won office.

"If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks," he said. "Although the second amendment folks, maybe there is..."

Trump tweeted that the comments were taken out of context and he was not pushing for violence.

The Clinton campaign slammed Trump's message.

Here is Wednesday's cover of the Daily News with the headline "This isn't a joke anymore" plastered in all caps.

Of course, the Daily News has taken the unique step of front page editorials regarding the Trump campaign with some frequency with blaring headlines such as "Dawn of the Brain Dead", "Dead clown walking" and "I'm with stupid!"

The Daily News is far from the only news outlet making exceptions for covering Trump. Here is an editor's note from the Huffington Post on a story.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
