EARLESVILLE, Md. — Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating an incident that left a Maryland student burned on a school bus on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews and investigators were dispatched to Hack's Point General Store located in Earlesville, Maryland when they found the student with burns on his hands.
An investigation showed that while the school bus was on route to drop off students from Bohemia Manor High School, the students on the bus notified the driver that there was a cellphone on the floor smoking.
They say the 18-year-old student picked up the cellphone from the ground and he burned his hands while attempting to throw it off the bus.
The student was later transported to Union Hospital of Cecil County with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the phone explosion.
