Multiple families have been displaced after a fire quickly spread across an apartment building Sunday morning.

The Clark County (Nevada) Fire Department said they were called out to the Maryland Hacienda Apartments after reports that there were people trapped due to a fire.

Before crews arrived, Clark County Fire said a man jumped from a second floor window to escape the flames, and then a child was safely dropped to him.

The child was not hurt, but the man who jumped was taken the hospital.

Clark County Fire was able to get the fire under control and put out before it could spread.

Sandra Miranda and her family will now have to look for a place to live after their apartment was destroyed.

"Thank God we're still here, the material stuff will come and go, but it still hurts," said Miranda. "You work hard, you struggle, you come from the bottom and pick up only to start all over again. It's hard."

The American Red Cross is assisting six adults and six children who were displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
