Haunted House Psychology: What really creeps us out the most

Posted

Sometimes there's no way around them and you'll eventually find your way inside a Haunted House during the month of October, but what is it that creeps us out the most.

Some information has been gathered over the years to find out how haunted house creators really get into our heads.

One big theme — making you feel trapped. Narrow hallways help make people seem that way. Researchers also say humans especially need extra space while standing.

Another reason is that people tend to feel safer when they see a threat, but aren't seen by that threatening person in the haunted house. That all changes in these spooky houses. They can always see you and hide between corners and turns.

Another tactic that gives people the chills is hearing weird sounds, but not knowing where they came from. Even if we can't see a threat, our mind assumes there is one and that forces us to be on guard.
