Frozen vegetable recalled due to listeria concern

The Pictsweet Company is recalling more than 1,800 cases of its Pictsweet Farms 8-ounce Steam’ables Asparagus Spears because they may contain listeria.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. 

No illnesses related to the recall have been reported so far, according to the press release from the FDA.

More information on which bags of the frozen vegetable are being recalled can be seen below:

  • UPC code: 0 70560 97799 9
  • Production codes beginning with the following six digits: 2138XD
  • "Best by" date of Aug. 1, 2020.

The affected asparagus was distributed in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

If you purchased the asparagus, you can contact the company's consumer affairs line at 1-800-527-0986, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. CST, Monday – Friday for additional questions. The vegetable can also be returned to the retailer where it was purchased for a full refund.
