Apple announces new products, software updates

Apple is slashing the price of its smart watch and introducing smaller versions of its iPhone and iPad Pro.

At a town hall event held at the company's headquarters on Monday, Apple executives announced several new versions and upgrades to its line of products.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the popular Apple Watch will now start at $299, which is a $50 drop from its previous cost. Cook also unveiled several new bands for the Apple Watch.

The company also announced the return of an iPhone with a 4-inch screen, which was last seen on the iPhone 5. Greg Joswiak, head of iPhone marketing, said the new iPhone SE is "the most powerful 4-inch phone ever."

The new iPhone SE will sell for $399 with 16GB of storage and $499 with 64GB. The device will hit stores on March 31.

A smaller, lighter version of the iPad Pro was also announced. A 9.7-inch iPad Pro will join its 12.9-inch counterpart on March 31.

The smaller iPad Pro will sell for $599 with 32GB of storage, $749 with 128GB and $899 with 256GB. A 256GB version of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro will also be introduced at a cost of $1,099.

Apple also announced a free software upgrade that will be available to users of its mobile products and Apple TV on Monday. The new iOS 9.3 will add features to popular apps including Notes, News, Health, CarPlay and others.
