The mayor of Davenport, Florida has been arrested after being accused of using handicap placards from dead people, WFTV reported

Teresa "Darlene" Bradley was arrested on Tuesday when Polk County, Florida Sheriff deputies caught her with a dead person's placard. Bradley has no known physical or mental handicaps, WFTV reported.

Bradley faces charges of criminal use of a deceased person’s identification, possession of a counterfeit decal and unlawful use of a handicapped placard, WFTV reported.

She reportedly used the handicap placards when she parked her vehicle, removing the placards from her rear-view mirror at the end of the day.

Deputies performed a search on Bradley's home, and found two other handicap placards both belonging to deceased people. One of the placards belonged to someone who died in 2012, and another was issued to someone who died in 2015, deputies claim.

“We expect our elected officials to set the proper example. She not only violated the law, she embarrassed the citizens of Davenport with her illegal conduct,” Sheriff Grady Judd told WFTV.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Bradley first was elected mayor of Davenport in 2013, and won a re-election bid in 2017.
