'Everybody Sucks:' Campaign sign turning heads

A campaign sign in a couple’s front yard, reading “Everybody Sucks 2016,” is continuing to get attention around a Kansas City neighborhood.

Debbie Butler and her husband, an Army veteran who fought overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq, first bought the sign as a joke.

“It's just fun,” Butler said. “We just thought it was funny when we saw it, so we bought it and put it in the front yard."

Butler added that the sign has gotten plenty of attention from people who live in the area.

“It gets a lot of car honks,” she explained. “It gets people stopping and saying, 'We love your sign.' People slow down and take pictures of our sign."

Antiques collector Michelle Staley, who lives in Lenexa, Kansas, has collected various election items over the years.

Her collection has included campaign pins, plates and paintings.

However, she said this recent campaign sign sticks out from the field.

“Back in the day, it was nasty but in a nice way,” she said. “This (campaign sign) is just in-your-face nasty. It's true but nasty.”

While the 2016 election continues to make history, Butler said it’s good to keep a sense of humor.

“We're going to do what we do in November, and in the meantime, we’re just going to have fun with the election,” she explained.

The sign is one of a number of items customers can buy on 16sucks.com. Other items, like T-shirts and bumper stickers, can be purchased with the “catchy” slogan.
