Two drivers are alive after a violent high speed crash in Akron, Ohio early Thursday morning that tore an engine from one of the cars.

Akron police say the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro was westbound at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light and hit a woman driving a Pontiac.

The impact was so severe that the engine in the woman's car was torn out and thrown nearly 100 feet away landing in the parking lot of a nearby gas station.

Police said that both drivers were taken to the hospital alert but the extent of their injuries were unknown.

Police said that officers on patrol witnessed the crash from a distance after the driver of the speeding Camaro passed them going as they were driving the opposite way.
