Could cockroaches feed the world?

Probably not, but the milk from a certain type of cockroach has scientists dreaming.

Scientists have found a protein crystal in the bugs that is four times as nutritious as cow's milk and could help feed the world's population, according to Science Alert .

Most cockroaches do not produce milk, according to the research, but a certain type of cockroach, Diploptera punctate, uses protein crystals of milk to feed its young.

Now there's a group at the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine working to replicate the crystals in a lab, according to Science Alert.

"It's time-released food," the research group' Ramaswamy group said in an interview with Times of India . "If you need food that is calorifically high, that is time released and food that is complete. This is it".
