CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Four people believed to be involved in a Chula Vista, California home burglary evaded police following a brief chase, but the group left a bunny inside their abandoned getaway car.

At around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Chula Vista police officers spotted a white BMW linked to a burglary the day before and tried to pull the car over. However, the BMW refused to stop and subsequently led officers on a brief pursuit.

The chase ended when the car crashed into a curb, but the four males inside fled the vehicle.

Officers searched the immediate area for the foursome but could not find them. Officers inspected the car and found that the group left behind various stolen property, plus a shotgun in the trunk and a bunny under the front seat.

The rabbit was taken to a Chula Vista animal shelter for evaluation. Police do not know if the bunny was stolen.

According to police, investigators are reviewing surveillance video to determine the identities of the four males.

Eric Deas told San Diego-based KGTV his home was ransacked Tuesday while he was gone for a few hours. He said his neighbor's security cameras captured a white BMW leaving the scene.

According to Deas, the burglars trashed his home, killed his fish, stole jewelry and electronics and took notes handwritten by his mother before she passed away two years ago.
