Bernie Sanders' campaign says it raised $6 million in the 24 hours after he announced he would be running for president in 2020.

The Sanders campaign tweeted Wednesday morning that it had received an average donation of $27 from about 225,000 people for a total of $6 million.

The New York Times reports that Sen. Kamala Harris (D-California) announced that her campaign raised $1.5 million from about 40,000 donors in the day after launching her campaign in January. The Associated Press reported that Sen. Amy Klobuchar raised about $1 million in a 48-hour span after her announcement.

Sen. Sanders (I-Vermont) is joining Harris, Klobuchar, Sen. Cory Booker, Julian Castro, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Rep. John Delaney, Marianne Williamson, Andrew Yang, and Sen. Eilzabeth Warren in seeking the Democratic nomination for president, with more candidates expected to announce.
