An evacuation at the Mesa Police Department's headquarters has been lifted after officials investigated a possible break-in at the facility. One suspect has been taken into custody.

Det. Steve Berry said staff arriving at the building near Main Street and Country Club Drive on Wednesday morning found a window at the headquarters broken, prompting an evacuation and investigation.

After searching the building, police say 51-year-old Jesus Carrillo was found inside an air vent.

Police say Carrillo admitted to be a frequent user of illegal drugs and had recently used methamphetamine.

Carrillo allegedly told police that he broke into the building for protection from people he believed wanted to harm him. He also admitted to going through several desks inside in an attempt to find a phone to call his son.

Carrillo has been arrested and faces charges for burglary and criminal trespassing.
