MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A Texas woman is questioning what led suburban Phoenix police to fatally shoot her unarmed husband at a hotel.
Laney Sweet, of Granbury, Texas, says she has hired attorneys to look into the death of Daniel Shaver.
Mesa police say officers were called Monday night after guests reported seeing a man point a rifle outside a fifth-floor window.
Police spokesman Steve Berry says officers located the room and detained Shaver and a woman outside in a hallway.
According to Berry, Shaver did not comply with officers and reached toward his lower back several times.
An officer fired his weapon, hitting Shaver.
He was pronounced dead.
Berry says no weapons were recovered from Shaver's body.
Officers did recover two pellet rifles in the hotel room, which they determined were related to Shaver's pest control job.
